Goal
The goal of this module is to equip Texas Health Steps providers and others to recognize risk factors for sudden unexpected infant death (SUID), including sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and other forms of sleep-related infant death; promote protective factors; and collaborate with parents and caregivers to support safe-sleep practices and environments.
Target Audience
Texas Health Steps providers and other interested health care professionals.
Specific Learning Objectives
- Assess the importance of reducing disparities in sleep-related infant deaths.
- Detect risk factors for SUID, including SIDS and other forms of sleep-related infant death, and promote protective factors to help prevent it.
- Formulate and deliver clear and consistent messages about risk reduction and safe sleep practices, and collaborate with parents and caregivers to support such practices.
Note: For the purposes of this module, the term “parent” also refers to caregivers and guardians.
