Goal

The goal of this module is to equip Texas Health Steps providers and other health care professionals with the necessary tools to implement legal requirements and best practices in assessing and promoting the oral health of children ages birth through 20 years.

Target Audience

Texas Health Steps providers and other interested health care professionals.

Specific Learning Objectives

  1. Evaluate the primary care provider’s responsibility to assess and promote oral health as an important component of overall health.
  2. Apply best practices for routine clinical assessment of oral health as part of medical checkups, recognize common tooth conditions that require referral to a dentist and provide dental anticipatory guidance.
  3. Integrate recommended oral health practices, such as referral to a dental home, into your clinical practice.
